Join New Zealand’s master letterpress printer, Tara McLeod, for a 3-day intensive workshop at Wai-te-ata Press, Victoria University of Wellington – Te Herenga Waka.
Using examples of his own work housed in Tapuaka, the JC Beaglehole Room, Tara will share his inspirations and insights before leading participants on an experimental typographic journey with the Press’s extensive collection of wood and metal types.
Learn about innovative ways of typesetting, inking and printing in the context of Modernist-inspired letterpress printing with a focus on letters and lettering as an art form.

Tara McLeod is the proprietor of Pear Tree Press, established 1985 in Auckland. Trained as a compositor and typographer in the world of commercial printing and advertising, he gravitated towards letterpress and didn’t turn back.
Associated with the Holloway Press, Auckland University, and the inaugural Printer-in-Residence at Otakou Press, University of Otago, his consummately designed and executed fine press books, broadsheets and sculptural works are in major collections around New Zealand and overseas.

This course is open to anyone with an interest in letterpress printing. Some letterpress experience is recommended.
